About

United was a boy’s recreational soccer team based in Holly Springs, NC. The team formed as the Spirit U6 team in 2003 and played as part of the Holly Springs Parks and Recreation department. The following season the team switched to “United” and has been so ever since.

United moved to U8 together in 2004 and came together as a group. As a team with mostly six-year olds, United found itself in a 2-2 tie in the semi-finals of the season championship with the league powerhouse Renegades (pictures under “Pictures” section). The tournament format kept United out of the championship game on points, but the team had a blast.  The following season United found itself right back in the championship, and for the next two seasons at U8 the team advanced back to the final. Also that season, the State Games of North Carolina were in Cary, and United entered it’s first non-league tournament.
United moved to U10 in 2006 but the Holly Springs Parks and Recreation department broke the team up. Wanting to stay together, the players took advantage of an offer from the Triangle Y Soccer Club to bring the team to TYSC, and in February, 2007, United played its first game as part of TYSC.

Thanks to a great group of players and parents, and a team family atmosphere, United has done many things together that most recreational teams didn’t do. The team has traveled to Greensboro and Myrtle Beach, was scheduled to play in Charleston, SC, and played at RFK Stadium in Washington, DC in the Fall, ’08 season.
Again being faced with the prospect of breaking up the team in the Triangle Y Soccer Club, United chose to change affiliations and moved to the Holly Springs Futbol Club in the fall, 2009.  Playing as a recreational team in the challenge-level North Carolina Champions League, United held its own, finishing both seasons around .500.

What was thought to United’s final tournament/game took place in the gold medal match of the 2010 State Games of North Carolina in Huntersville where the team came from behind to down the SISA Heat, 3-2.  Rather than change leagues again, the team officially disbanded with the gold medal win, but has continued to play indoor seasons at XL Soccer World and Netsports each season since.  United attempted to win its second gold medal in 2011 but fell short.  United captured its second gold medal at the 2012 State Games at Bermuda Run in June, 2012.
The team continued to play winter indoor seasons through the high school years until March, 2016, when the team played its final game.
All the while the team lived by it’s motto: Play Hard. Have Fun.
